This is beyond funny -- and it shows how funny the mind works. One evening I was at a party, and I thought it would be funny to claim that a famous actor was missing a finger. At the time, Daryl Hannah was in the movie splash, so I claimed she was missing one in reality.

Well, I must have actually heard the story, and instead of being a brilliant practical joker, I was just repeating facts hidden inside my mind.
